Bio

When you think about a local band, you think of a group that comes together to do cover music and just by chance, you may get an original song here or there. In Memphis, bands come a dime a dozen, but the PC band is a lot different, music is a way of life for the most part. Perfect Combination Band encompasses the epitome of unity. Though the group was only formed 1 year and 8 months ago, during a recent interview, their knowledge of the industry surpassed those that have been in the business for decades.

Three members decided to put together a band that is 4 guys and a girl that can work the lead vocals. Not only can the group play music in perfect harmony, they can sang!!! Heavily influenced by gospel music (as most bands in the south are), their style is compared to that of Kem, Jill Scott, Chaka Khan, Isley Brothers , with a touch of Al Green. But not to be limited by the ethnic sounds of only R&B, they can easily break out with a hit from Plain White T’s, Amy Winehouse, and they have the flexibility to rock out a packed house at the Hard Rock Café.

Currently residing in Marion Arkansas, the band wanted to broaden their horizons and head across the bridge to play on a larger scale. Ask anyone in West Memphis or Marion and they will tell you how good the PC Band is. Often times you can catch them at Rita’s on the Square playing their sultry sounds. By no means can this band be mistaken as a small town cover band, their talent is on a larger scale. Memphis Stars had the privilege to listen firsthand how good the band is by a personal invite from one of the band members to a closed rehearsal.

Across the board, the band feels that music is life and raw emotion. Music is universal and it changes every day. One member feels that music is a way to relate to people and a way to express the passion that it derives from. If you ask Jeromy, one of the founding members, the type of music they play is R&B, Pop, Neo Soul, and mostly it depends on the venue and event. All members collectively feel that it really depends on the crowd. While in rehearsal you may have your mind set on one set of songs, you can arrive to the event and the crowd takes you in another way. They feel that is the reason why every band should play universal music and have the ability to transcend far past the minds of the usual.

What sets the PC band aside from other bands in the city is their versatility. They have male and female leads, and the band sings the back ground vocals. They sing and play to give the audience the full musical impact. Music has always been a part of their lives. It comes natural to each of the members. The gift of music was passed down from generation to generation because none of the members have had any formal training. But when you listen to the band, they can play just about anything. So I had to test them. I called out old and new songs during the rehearsal, and without ANY hesitation, the band played them all! The rehearsal started with a warm up of Bobby Womack’s “Nobody wants you when you’re down and out”. The lead guitar started with that smooth beat and in comes this voice that was so bold and strong, yet subtle enough to belt out all of the notes. I was intrigued! Then I asked, “Will you sing any Jill Scott song”? As if we were already at the Hard Rock Café’, Cicely began to sing a couple of songs off of my favorite album of all times, “Who is Jill Scott?” Now wait a minute, Bobby and Jill? You have got to be kidding me! (laughing) Before I knew it, I became a groupie! Yes me, the critical one. I could not be out done. The hour was getting later but I was addicted, I said (in between my live concert that included me singing background), “Please play Thank You by Estelle.” Again, without hesitation from vocals or musicians entered this solid alto note and I had to ask again, “How long has this group been together?” They all simultaneously stated,” 7 months”! I was officially out done!

The PC Band got its name from the members collaborating and throwing around different names. Perfect Combination is an old Johnny Gill and Stacy Lattisaw song that fit perfectly for them. They have a special gift, a good vibe, and put that together, they are a Perfect Combination, but locally known as the PC Band. They want the public to know that they love what they do. They want and need you to enjoy the show. Everyone in the band is down to earth and approachable. They all say that they can make you feel good by playing feel good music. I can attest to that!
